Just like with people, preventative care is key to a long and healthy life.  There are many ways that pets can benefit from an ounce of prevention.

Puppy & Kitten Vaccine Packages

It is important to get the new members of your family off to a good start.  These packages are usually 2 to 3 visits each spaced about 3 weeks apart.  The package that is most appropriate for your pet is determined by their age and what vaccinations they have already received.  The initial package includes free samples of preventatives (such as heartworm medicine), a leash, educational materials, and other items.

A "Welcome Home DVD" is included in the package at no extra charge.  This excellent video is a comprehensive overview of how to care for your pet.  It covers common behavioral and training issues, and important medical topics over the lifespan of your pet.  It is intended for the whole family and is designed to make your pet's introduction to your household as smooth as possible.

Adult Vaccinations

Once dogs and cats become adults, vaccinations are no longer one-size-fits-all.  We customize your pet's vaccine recommendations based on their lifestyle, exposure risk, home environment, breed, and past vaccination history.  In this way, your pet only gets what they really need, and is not subjected to a cookie-cutter approach to medicine.

There is great variability in the production of vaccines by different manufacturers.  We select the vaccines that are considered to be the safest by leading independent researchers in veterinary medicine.  We do not pass the increased cost of these higher quality vaccines on to you.

Internal Parasite Screening

Our yearly "heartworm test" not only tests for the presence of heartworms.  It also screens your dog for exposure to Ehrlichia and Lyme Disease, two tick-borne diseases.

Annual fecal examinations are performed by the "centrifugation" technique, which results in more accurate results than the older "flotation" technique still performed at many hospitals.  The Companion Animal Parasite Council recommends looking for intestinal parasites yearly, because some of them can be passed to people.

Senior Wellness Care

Your pet is considered to be a "senior citizen" at 6 to 9 years of age, depending on size and breed.  These pets require additional preventative care such as bloodwork, blood pressure checks, glaucoma screening, wellness exams every 6 months, and possibly a change in diet.  We have created a Senior Wellness Program that combines the most important screening tools at a discounted price.  Early detection of health problems results in earlier intervention, which often leads to a longer and healthier life for your pet, and can reduce the overall cost of care for your pet.
